Hey guys, how are you all? Today I thought I would do a lil post sharing with you how I style my naturally curly hair. If you don’t know I only started embracing my natural hair about nine months ago, before that I straightened my lil mop, I wont go into the why and things, I wrote a post about it all a while ago so I’ll link that in within this sentence.
Honestly my styling is not long and its not particularly impressive but I wish I would have seen articles or whatever like this when I was younger about curly hair, because maybe I wouldn’t have hated it so much, so if sharing this encourages another naturally curly gal to brave her curls then I’m here for it.
From about the age of 13/14 i’ve straightened my hair, it started off with just my fringe … cool I know and then I wanted my entire wig to be sleek and straight. My natural hair is curly and I don’t mean like waves here and there, I mean full on original, ginger Annie curls … if you know, you know!
I literally HATED my hair, the amount of times i’ve looked at another girls hair and wished I had hair like theirs is unmeasurable, believe me, hair envy is real. I remember being little and grown ups would be like “you have such beautiful hair” and “look at those curls” but all I wanted was to have straight hair. I got my mam to straighten it with the iron when I was about 16, yes the iron, i’m old now okay this was ten years ago.
Hey you guys! I know, I know, where’ve I been the past few weeks? Well don’t worry i’m gonna update you all on what’s been happening in my life. First I just wanna start by saying i’m not writing this post because I feel obliged to explain my absence from blogging because I do feel like taking breaks when necessary is actually a really healthy thing for your mind, body and creativity, i’m writing this because my blog is a place where I can freely communicate to all you amazing people and myself things that I might be feeling, loving, hating etc and that’s exactly what i’m doing right now.
You’ve heard of Olaplex, right? I mean it’s literally everywhere in the hair care world now and I feel like it just came from nowhere like one minute i’d never seen, read or heard a single thing about it and the next it was blowing up my Instagram feed.
For those of you who’ve not yet came across Olaplex lemme just give you a little sum up of what it is and what it does. Basically Olaplex is a brand with miracle products that helps bond, strengthen, repair and protect hair from damage caused through bleaching, dying etc. and will be found in your hairdressers’ cupboards just sitting there waiting to transform your locks. Now I’m no hairdresser or hair expert so what I’m telling you here is just what I know/been told and have experienced but I’ll insert a link somewhere in this post to their website for more info.
A few months ago I decided to dye my hair blue, now anyone who has known me a long time will know that this is a bit of a drastic move for me. I’ve been dying my hair since I was about 16 when Demi Lovato coloured her hair black and I was like ‘I need to look like that’ so dyed mine black too … I know how ‘Regina George wore army pants and flip flops’ of me. Anyway I’m naturally dark brown so changing to black wasn’t that much of a big deal and the only other colours I’ve experimented with are light brown, dark purple and a few blonde highlights (but we won’t talk about those).
